Segufix Restraint System – Original Post 3/12/08

Last night, for the first time ever I got to experience the magic feeling that is the Segufix restraint system.  For those of us with an interest in bondage and restraint, especially coupled with the medical world, this setup is no stranger to you.  For those that don’t know, Segufix is a “humane” type of medical restraint.  It is a setup for when simple 4-point restraints will just not be secure enough.  It consists of cloth covered, heavy nylon straps that latch together by means of a magnetic key.  The beauty of this system is that is can be mated perfectly to beds, gurneys, procedure tables, etc…
I was able to try the full system while it was attached to an old style hospital gurney.   While the gurney itself did not have much room to be able to fully move around and test the limits of the straps, I feel it was still an exceptional test and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the range of movement that was available to move me from a lying position to a sitting position just be raising the head of the gurney.
TO begin the procedure of restraining me we started with the waist strap.  This one is the biggest, and probably most used portion of the whole system.  On me it came right around my waist covering up a good portion of my abdomen.  With the abdomen strap are two smaller ones that come up underneath and over the shoulder and connect in the center of the waist belt.  This secures my upper body to the middle of the bed…at this point I can still sit up at will.
The next to be applied were the thigh cuffs.  These were placed midway on my thigh pulling my legs ever so slightly to the outside edge of the gurney.  Ankle restraints were next.  These cuffs fit in a way that just felt “secure” for lack of a better word.  These brought my ankles out towards the end of the gurney, but my ankles were slightly inward to allow me to keep a slight bend in the knees for comfort.
Next came wrist, and upper arm restraints.  The wrists I had no problem with, but the upper arms took so much leverage away from the body that it was essentially impossible to use much strength to pull against the straps.  Finally, the straps running over my shoulder were buttoned to straps attaching to the head of the bed, effectively rendering me flat on my back.  The rails on the gurney were raised and I was left several moments by myself to settle in.
Once 10-15 minutes had gone by my friends came back into the room and no you horn dogs…not to play.  We were trying to discuss the whole ordeal and talk about the thoughts of using this as a true long-term restraint setup.
Friday night, I will be taking the plunge and signing myself into the care of these two, will have orders (until I beg to be let out) to try and help me through staying a whole night.
I have attached a photo of a Segufix in use for those of you who haven’t seen it…..

  2. They are mitts that go over the hands to keep patients from grabbing at tubes, wires, restraints, etc…

    • Yepp. Sold by Posey in the USA. The ones pictured have a mesh fabric on top of the hands and feature finger seperators. Doesn’t work too well though. Plus they do have a closure which is exactly where the Segufix wristcuffs would be. When shooting the video I told the model to somewhat make a fist so she could struggle without slipping out of the mitts / cuffs. A better version is the Posey #2819. Even better is the japanese Angelgroup #1797 mitt that features working finger separators and a magnetic lock. All of them have the problem with having a closure where the Segufix wristcuffs would go. The best solution in my opinion is to get a locking coverall with sewn on padded mitts. Just like the one pictured on my website (
      And yes…I agree…the lady looks better than I do…

  4. When is the Segufix Restraint System used?

Comment by Joe Smith | February 17, 2009 | Reply

    • Realistically I am not sure since it is such a heavy-duty system and restraints seem to be frowned upon for real medical use. For the bondage and restraint worl though it is somewhat of the “holy grail”.

      • I wouldn’t say that. Segufix is quite common in Germany. I’d say just about every Hospital has several sets. It is also widely used in elderly homes. From what I have seen in documentaries in most cases they seem to use only a few parts though. Mostly they are using the waistbelt. It was quite amazing to see how badly they were using the straps. I mean…it’s not like it’s rocket-science. But in many cases I saw them tangle up the belts.

  6. Why is everybody always in Spandex? And does this restraint system work on everybody?

    • The spandex is there to keep body parts covered…. can’t have R-rated content in a public blog.

      • ….the bed is mine. A friend of mine made the first version of it. A blacksmith nearby made the second version. Plus I had it sand-blasted and powder coated.

  11. i have used the segufix for 8-9 months and it was teh best sleep i’ve had. i have got medical issues that cause pain when i turn over during the night, from this over the last several years my average sleep is restricted to 4-6 hours and broken at that. with the segufix i was able to sleep 8-10 hours each night without issues, never woke up in pain and always felt much fresher and able to do more during the day as i wasn’t over tired as i normally am.
the system was fitted to a single mattress on a pine base.

  12. i would like to know whether it is possible to use this segufix system for self bondage.
to begin the locking from the ankles then the thighs, …etc
finally the hands… (the right hand may be a hard problem)

    Comment by mark | April 13, 2010 | Reply

    • …it does work quite well for self bondage. As you said you can lock the ankles…thighs…waistbelt…crotchstrap…shoulder restraints. For the hands there are two easy options. Number one is to lock the cuffs on the hands and NOT passing them through the loops on the waistbelt. You can then lock the wristcuffs with the grommet at the end of the straps to the lock that keeps the waistbelt on the bed. Leaves about 20 cm play around the lock. The other option I found is to use the Acute Wristrestraint. They are similiar to the ones sold by Humane Restraint or Posey. Only that the Segufix ones are made from cotton. You can put your hand in the cuffs so that you can only just slide in and out of the cuffs. Close all the other straps and then slide your hands into the cuffs. Set correctly you need to pull quite a bit for them to slip out again. If you make your hand very slightly bigger (like making a fist) you can pull all you like without slipping out of the cuffs.
